Funny how I drilled my PC: now I have a mini-usb connector brought right out to the front panel, and the player can be plugged straight into the PC. This was suggested to me by adehopt, whom I really should have added as a friend a long time ago. But I'm afraid my technical nature won't withstand his artistic posts. Then again, I haven't added anyone for a month now, because I'm too lazy to go to the management page and too lazy to check who is totally off-topic for me, and who I could actually add.
A couple of years ago, reading reviews, I used to wonder - how could anyone run out of usb ports.
And now I know how. Very simply. Let's count what I have.

Webcam
Remote control
Mini-usb cable for the player
Joystick
Card reader
An extension cord ending on the desk, for all sorts of different devices like flash drives or other people's cameras
That's 8 devices in total. I have exactly 8 ports, so theoretically it would be enough. In practice - 4 on the back and two on the face, meaning 6.
And so just now I installed an expansion bracket that brings out 2 more ports from the motherboard. Moreover, I routed one port to the back, for the extension cord, and sawed the second one into the front wall of the case to connect the mp3 player (see above).
It's scary to think about, but I'm also going to have a usb warmer for my mug.
It costs 1 (one) dollar, shipping from China to Latvia is 5 dollars. The wonders of globalization, yeah. I also have an idea to power it from 12 volts, so it heats better. To do this, I also brought a 12-volt power connector (the so-called Molex) out to the front wall. Not sure if it'll work out, but we'll try.
